Subhasis Ray is an expert in modeling and simulation of biological neural networks and scientific software development. His expertise spans software engineering, parallel computing, and machine learning, including digital signal processing for neural data. He possesses interdisciplinary experience, translating results from animal experiments into complex computer simulations. He has a strong background in electrophysiology, microscopy, and data analysis.
Experience
Visiting Fellow
NICHD, NIH
Designed and developed a scientific software toolkit for analyzing animal behavioral recordings using Python/PyQT/PyTorch. Developed biophysically realistic neuronal network models from experimental data. Developed scripts for simulation and analysis on NIH Biowulf supercomputer. Maintained bitbucket/github repositories for the code. Carried out electrophysiology experiments in vivo, histology, microscopy, and neuronal morphology tracing; visualized and analyzed data using Python scipy stack. Presented results in scientific seminars, wrote and published articles in peer-reviewed scientific journals. Mentored and trained summer students and taught Introductory Data Science using Python to scientists at NCI and NIH.
Post Doctoral Fellow (Bridging)
NCBS, TIFR
Developed an open data format for storing and sharing large datasets from neuronal simulations (in collaboration with Wojcik group in Nenki Institute, Warsaw, Poland). Coordinated with collaborators to write and publish results in a peer-reviewed journal.
Senior Research Fellow (Graduate researcher)
NCBS, TIFR
Co-developed the MOOSE neural simulator, maintained SVN and git repositories. Simulated and analyzed a biophysically realistic cortical network model. Presented results in scientific conferences; wrote and published scientific articles. Mentored Google Summer of Code students.
IT Specialist/Software Engineer
IBM India Pvt Ltd
Designed and developed business software using JAVA, DB2, XML, Websphere MQ. Coordinated with off-site team to maintain existing business software back-end. Gave training courses to fellow software engineers, and mentored summer interns.
